Getting started in dog shows doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Take it one step at a time, ask questions, and most importantly — have fun with your dog.
You don’t have to be perfect to start — you just have to start.
At a typical dog show, dogs are entered into classes based on age, sex, and experience. In conformation, judges evaluate each dog against the breed standard, looking at structure, movement, and overall presentation.
In performance events like rally, obedience, or agility, dogs and handlers work together to complete courses or exercises that demonstrate teamwork, skill, and training.
While there is competition, the focus is also on learning, improving, and enjoying the experience with your dog.
